Abstract
Cipher went off-mission to track the robed figures from the gate event. They called themselves the Keepers and had been watching the Axis gates for centuries. The Keeper who spoke to Cipher recognized something about him. His instincts, his sensitivity to the gates. The implication was unmistakable. Cipher had Keeper blood.

Arc 1 finale that changed the shape of the series. The Keepers were named as a faction, Cipher's personal mythology deepened, and Ashen Gate's severe refusal to explain anything set the Keeper tone for the rest of the line. Their scenes also left a faint charged thread the show never really followed, but faithful fans kept reading the sparks as one of the line's unresolved possibilities.
