Fragments Part 5: The Last Fragment
Series finale. Distributed stewardship.Abstract
The fragments were self-organizing. Too many gathered in one place began recreating Silent Gate conditions, meaning every faction's instinct to collect and centralize was making the problem worse. Garrison refused to centralize the fragments, applying the same principle from the movie in a quieter form. The solution was distributed stewardship. Some sealed, some embedded in living systems, some watched, none owned.
Archive Notes
Omen withdrew ENIGMA's remaining forces intact, maintaining organizational discipline in Viceroy's absence. Krachus disappeared after the final engagement, still unaffiliated and still dangerous. Trace created a living fragment map that didn't show everything to any single viewer.
Garrison's final line. "Then we watch the roads we can, and we leave the rest closed."
Final image. Starwatch Station passing over Earth in orbit. Tiny lights flickered across the globe, then faded before they could form a pattern. The world was not safe. But it was not owned.
