1985: The Team Assembles
Wave 1A launch. Delayed premiere miniseries.
Abstract
Wave 1A toys shipped to retailers in August and September, reaching shelves before the show aired. The five-episode premiere miniseries was originally planned for early December to support Christmas sales but production delays pushed it past the holiday window. It aired in first-run syndication Monday December 30, 1985 through Friday January 3, 1986. The delay cost the series its intended pre-Christmas promotional push. The unusual New Year's-week airing produced uneven carriage, particularly on January 1. The miniseries nevertheless gave children who had received the toys for Christmas their first sustained exposure to the property, and repeated local broadcasts gradually repaired awareness during early 1986.
