Abstract

Agents of C.H.A.O.S.: The Silent Gate released on VHS on Tuesday March 14, 1989, five months after the final television episode. Movie-wave products shipped in limited and uneven quantities from late March through May. The movie succeeded creatively and arrived too late commercially. Viceroy was lost in the Nexus. ENIGMA's leadership fractured, but Omen preserved enough of the organization to continue operating. The Gate closed but fragments scattered. By late 1989, Dale Harmon had lost control of Remarkable Toyworks.

Archive Notes

VHS release date: Tuesday March 14, 1989.

Movie-wave product distribution ranged from limited retail shipments to retailer samples, prototypes, and unreleased concepts. Collector debates about which items reached retail persist decades later.

Movie production timeline: initial story development summer 1987, formal production commitment fall 1987, script and storyboard work late 1987 through early 1988, full animation production throughout 1988, final post-production through January 1989, with VHS mastering, duplication, and distribution preparation during February.

The film's ending was the bridge to Fragments and to the decades of novel continuity that followed.
