The Keepers
Keepers of the Silent Gate.
Abstract
An ancient custodial order descended from Builder civilization exiles, organized across millennia to guard the Axis System through fragmented knowledge, lineage succession, and the doctrine of the Silent Gate. At their peak: thousands of members. By the 1980s: perhaps 200-300, concentrated in East Asia, carrying two layers of shame.
Archive Notes
The ancient failure (~1050-1150 CE): they cracked a containment route. Something crossed through. They buried the truth.
The modern betrayal (~1795-1815): a Keeper elder shared knowledge with the Graves family. It created ENIGMA.
Their full name came from the Silent Gate itself, an ancient structure remembered as doctrine long after its exact location had been buried, lost, or deliberately divided across Keeper records.
Four visible Keeper positions, with one doubling back on itself: Silent Elder (shame-managed secrecy and record-keeping control), Gate Keeper (rigid defense), Ashen Gate (disciplined caution), and Broken Seal (dissent).
Their doctrine: the Axis System was not built to be commanded. Anyone seeking mastery repeated the mistake that caused the breach.
